India in its phase of demographic transition and trends reveal a sharp increase in the number of elderly persons and by 2050 elderly people in India would rise to 324 million acquiring the label of an ageing population.

The elderly population in India suffer from multiple problems and they include –

• Specific Health issue related to Ageing
• Socio economic problems
• Financial problems

Of the above stated problems health issues occupy the number one spot. DEMENTIA is one such age related disorder a devastating & dreadful condition where an individual has forgetfulness, loss of interest in surroundings, loss of social skills and personality. Depression is also a major part of dementia. Vegetative state followed by death are frequent end results. This is a life no one wants to witness.

Almost 47 million people are living with dementia around the world today with 4.1 million of them in India. Researchers also found that there are more than 9.9 million new cases of dementia each year worldwide, implying one new case every 3.2 seconds. By 2015 nearly half the people live in Asia. Around 60% of such people are from low or medium socio-economic status.

This dreadful condition is easily preventable and need professional supportive care. Awareness of the disease and preventive aspects should be taken to the people.

With this in mind we (Wellness Solutions, Pvt. Ltd) are associated with Rotary Cochin Central in “RUN 4 LIFE’ that is called as a Run to Remember on 18^th December in Cochin at Durbar hall ground at 5.30am. This is a 5 KM & 10 KM run for all sections of people and the proceedings will be used for providing infrastructure for Dementia Day Care Centre of ARDSI and Free Memory Clinic.
